Is a free autoresponder safe for your internet marketing business? I have tested many services and in this article I will show you the three main traps hiding behind a free autoresponder offer and how to escape them.

As you may have learned, knowledge is the basic pillar of safety: if you know the risks tied to any activity, you can avoid them.

How many times you wished you could have had a guide to teach you everything you should know before buying something?

The problem is risks may be hiding even when money is not at stake.

I’m talking about free tools you can get delivered in your email or anywhere else for a free subscription. Sometimes you could find yourself submerged with spam or, even worse, malaware before you even realize it.

Of course, if your goal is to make money online using free internet marketing tools, this would be an obstacle or, at the very least, a source of distraction mining your focus and your results.

Since the most important internet marketing tool is the email auto responder, I keep seeing lately many companies offering a free autoresponder account. Usually, not all these offers are really what they seem. Here is a list of the main traps you may fall in.

1) 1 month free trial period
Most of the top autoresponder companies offer a free account with this clause: you get an account to you free from charge for a trial period of one month and then, if you want to keep it, you need to pay the monthly fee. To escape this trap you need to carefully check the terms and conditions before subscribing. First of all, this clause is usually disclosed right there, rather than in the ad driving you to the subscription page. Next, if you want to use the free autoresponder just to test the service, it’s no big deal if you drop you account at the end of the month. Other way, if you are willing to use the free account as a real internet marketing tool to grow your online business, certainly you need to make sure you don’t loose your subscribers at the end of the month when you do not confirm the extension of your subscription. The only way to escape this is to make sure, before subscription, that the service allows you to export your subscribers’ list. Once exported, you get your asset and you can import it and market it with any other email auto responder service.

2) Limited follow-up series
One of the main limitations of free accounts has to do with the number of follow-up messages series you can upload. Obviously, you will need at least a follow-up series for each one of your marketing campaigns, but this is a thing many newbies don’t know. That’s why they may discover how the free autoresponder accounts limitations are limiting their business when it’s too late. As a matter of fact, there’s an easy way to escape this trap, even if it requires a bit more work to manage. You can subscribe for more than one account to the same service: If the free autoresponder service gives you 3 follow-up series, you could subscribe for two accounts and get access to 6 series. Most of the times, the only thing you need to do that is another email address, and you can get as many as you want at gmail.com. The more work comes from the fact you need to manage two different accounts and it will be pretty hard to move subscribers from one to the other or vice-versa. This is up to you to evaluate: You should plan in advance which kind of business you want to build and how many campaigns it will need. If the campaign number is high as compared to the maximum follow-up series of the account, maybe the price you’re going to pay for it will be too high. As before, check the terms and conditions before subscribing and make your plans.

3) Low level tutorials
Some companies offering a free service save on training material: some of the free autoresponder accounts I tested are really poor on this side. Sometimes I found myself bouncing forth and back from one page to the other and back again like a crazy frog without finding what I needed. It really depends on the service you choose: some of them offer free training video tutorials, which are actually the best way to learn how to use the service, some other have a section on their website with the instructions in text form. Some others have a built in online help service and, in the end, there are those who will never tell you how it work even if their mother was dying. What I can suggest you to do to avoid falling in this trap is checking the instructions and tutorials right away after subscription and before launching any marketing campaign. Maybe setting up your first form will be easy enough, but you could find yourself stuck later.

I hope this information will be useful to you, if you’re searching for a free autoreponder service. At least this helped me to find my way. If you’re determined to build a real business and make money online, you will do it even with free resources, you just need to choose the best ones.
